In this portion, verse 57: Rabbi Gordon explained that from here, we learn a very important teaching that the parents can't just marry off their daughter without the daughter's consent. i.e. without the daughter meeting her potential husband and the chatan and kallah agreeing to the marriage, it's not a done deal!
My question here is the following:
Lavan is leading the negotiations on Rivkah's side at this point. Lavan is far from a Tzaddik and not a good man. Why would he offer Rivkah this option in this situation, and not just make the decision? It doesn't make much sense to me that we would be learning this teaching from Lavan's good deed... because that would completely go against his entire character and what he stood for.
Please let me know if there is something here I am misunderstanding.
