This melody is attributed to the founder of Chabad, the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi. Although it has not yet been established whether this is one of the famous ten melodies which the Alter Rebbe composed. The melody is in three sections and its moving, stimulating tones awaken even the most delicate threads of the soul to repentance and contrition.
