Two Analogies Well I always thought of the parable of the market to be one where sometimes a person can go to a market but he doesn't really need anything, it's more for the eye candy or for other wrong things. Rather then spreading good deeds, doing mitzvot and learning Torah, the person is distracted by the hussle and bussle of the loud world. Torah and mitzvot is quiet, there is noone screaming or clapping and while in this world it can seem like we are playing an 'away game' I.e. few people supports us and their noise pales in insignificance to the noise made by the other side, the side of physicality.

I heard a Living Torah where the Rebbe says that the song is an analogy for the soul coming down to the world. The troublemaker is the yetzer hara, the evil inclination, though it can only cause trouble if there's an absence of good. If everyone's completely involved in making a profit (doing good) the troublemaker looks like a fool.

We should all be able to use the world for what it should be. Reply

The Russian part is sometimes sung in English as "Hey Johnny, Johnny, Johnny, what are you doing in the market? You don't buy and you don't sell, all you do is yell." Reply

This song has two parts Hebrew and Ukranian, the Hebrew is from the Book of the Psalms, and translates as "My soul thirsts for you(G-D), and my body yearns for you." The Russian part is "Why are you Marco so stupid came to the fair and you're not buying and not sellng anything just make trouble." And its a parable to a soul that came down to this world and instead doing what its supposed to, which is serving G-D, its not doing anything useful besides dealing with silly things. Reply
