Hi Chana,
Amazing blessing to have a father like you have. It's a joy to hear you speak about your relationship and how you learned from him. I was most inspired by the moments you shared about when he passed away and you were singing by his bedside and (I think your grandmother as well). I thought that must be the best possible way to transition to another dimension surrounded by family, to have consciousness and song to transport one between worlds. Many thanks for sharing. Reply

Rabbi Schochet Interprets A Dream

My wife and I had been married for over 10 years and had received numerous brochos from the Rebbe during those years. Finally, B”H, my wife became pregnant.

Rabbi Schochet had a reputation that he was able to interpret dreams for the good. And the Gemara says that a dream follows its interpretation. One Friday night Shabbos I had a dream. A very strong, realistic feeling dream. The Rebbe said to me, “If your wife gives birth to a girl, you should name her after your mother.” When I woke up, I was very disturbed since my mother was, and still is, alive ka”h. I came to Shul that Shabbos morning and brought my dilemma to Rabbi Schochet. He immediately told me what to do. He said, “If your wife gives birth to a girl, you should name her Chanah after the Rebbe's mother, as she is considered like a mother to us all.”
Several months later, my wife gave birth – to a healthy baby boy, B”H. Twenty five years later, he got married. His wife's name – Chanah. Reply

I just listened to the entire interview with Mrs. C. Weissberg I remember tow encounters with

1) I was present when he addressed the AKO by-annual conference that was hosted by the COR and was given the proper respect as the Rov of the city of Toronto.
2) when I was at my nephew’s wedding in Toronto he married a girl from Toronto and he was the מסדר קידושין and I was honored with reading the תנאים which he filled up for me to read and as I was about to begin the reading of the תנאים he turned to me quietly and told me that although I knew you know how to read the תנאים I wrote it out that it should be easy for you to read it out easily.

“How” The Rav ah” heard and spoke to me (only a few times) was an higher experience in truthfulness.
When he asked me a question, it’s like I could hear him hearing me !
May his Neshama have an Aliyah …

Thank you. I had the great Zchut to have studied for a short summer with the illustrious Rabbi Dovid Schochet. I was a counselor at the Lubavitch Day Camp and we learnt each day with Rav Schochet. These 30 - 50 minutes per day, several times a week, stayed with me until today.
He taught us with his masterful way of teaching, his explanations, his stories and his kindness made it certain that his teachings will remain with me and with all of those he taught.

b"H It's mamash overpowering to feel the impact of an open wound communicating directly from your very close relationship to your father, about whose impact one will and must speak forever. It's amazing that with your relating how he asked you to lay his Tefillin on him (and your having learned that from your husband, Isser) you, i.e. he answered a query I had recently at the Shabbos Tisch of a rabbi here in Yerushalayim. Please thank him for that however you can. It breaks my heart that it had to come that way. It hurts to the "quick" as one says. Chana, please ask him to look up the soul of a young girl, Shir, the "baby" of Shlomo, an oh so delicate little brown-complexioned Abba. She was murdered on October 7. He gave me Tzedakah on her behalf, when I was collecting from motorists on Rechov haTzvi behind the Tachnat haMercazit here in Yerusahalayim. He gives there regularly, for he passes there on his way from work on the same street. - more in another box Reply

That was super inspiring to me, and bez”H I will definitely be doing something with extra sensitivity in the honor of Rav Dovid Ben Dov Yehuda. Also, being that I’m in a place of shlichus, I hope to bez”H be able to channel my inspiration from hearing this, to be able to further my impact on the people around me in the best way possible. My heartfelt condolences to you and the Shochet family on the loss of your beloved father, such a treasured leader here in Toronto.

The name Shochet was often heard in my family because my late mother was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland, and she often told us that her grandfather used to learn with your grandfather.

May your father's neshama attain the highest aliyah, and may he continue to guide you all from his place high above in Shamayim. Reply

Dear Chana. Your beautiful stories about your father moved me so deeply. And you did a wonderful and brave thing, to open up on a public video so shortly after his passing. As you say, I think he would have fully supported that! Each and every one of the stories you told affected and inspired me deeply. That one small act can make the difference - to whoever that person is that needs help. Clearly, he never stopped and impacted people's lives on the deepest level. His kindness and humor come across as well. And he went everywhere with his Sefer! I now also understand your radiance more, as he lives on in you. Blessings to you both. I am one person whose life has changed after listening to your description of and stories about your father, Rabbi Dovid Shochet, of Blessed Memory.
Thank you for the courage to share your father with us so soon after his passing.
There is so much to learn from Rabbi Schochet, and so much to even attempt to emulate in any small way.
I am at a loss for the proper words, as I was in tears through most of your talk, at one point imagining myself in your seat next to your father as he drove you to school. My parents never really spoke to me as I remember. ( Through no fault of their own.) Oh to have a father with the ability to reach out to his children. Thank you for sharing.
