Vashti's Fate I think I was taught many, many years ago at Sunday school that she was dipped in honey and attacked by bees on a roof top then died. That was her fate for refusing her husband's will and that's why Esther was scared to ask him a favor. One wouldn't know his mood. Reply

I never heard that but the Midrashim on Vashti interpret her very differently. In some they point out Ahauserus isn’t king yet and Vashti was the real heir to the throne as the orphan daughter of Belshazzar. Her refusal to come may have been a refusal to be humiliated in front of all the powers of the kingdom, and so Ahasuerus killed her and replaced her to secret his power. Almost like he knew she would never come stand there naked, so he told her to do it as a set up. I don’t know if its true. Some say she mistreated Jewish women and this end was just. The midrashim on her is very differently depending on the era. Reply

Rabbi Epstein thanks for letting some light into my life, especially after the tragedy in Japan and the unending suffering of that country. It shows me that to dwell on that darkness we can only find death. Instead I will continue to give money to help them and try to find the light somewhere in their suffering. I will do extra good deeds and try to bring light into the world. Reply
