6... not bad for someone who knows next to nothing about the topic. so far I only know what I've heard in passing in conversation. Where can I go to learn more? Reply

You can tell I am a woman! I know what to do in the home and when for Shabbat, but I rarely get to Kabbalat Shabbat. Too busy getting everything ready and checking when to light candles. It is pretty hectic in the wintertime, but oh, that moment of peace when we light the candles. Reply

Love these quizzes and everything y’all do! Very blessed to have you all and all you do. Thank you and Moshiach now! :) prayers for Israel and the Jewish people and all who need! Reply

In the link to that question it says only that we turn around. I was surprised that more wasn't said. The "Front" of the Shul the Aron HaKodesh is toward Jerusalem, so East or West or ...
Most (All?) Shuls are built with the enterance ... the door in the back.
We start looking toward the Front & Jerusalem.
If we turn around we face THE DOOR where we come in and picture the Kallah Shabbat (or Moshiach) coming in to greet us. That is my understanding ... what I was taught.
Turning around could also be 360° so I am surprised not more was mentioned.

Why west ? Doesn't it depend were is Jerusalem relatively to your location? Reply

GM May 21, 2024
in response to question:

Read the link provided by Chabad. The article explains that it is because we are facing the setting sun, not putting our backs to Jerusalem. The sun sets in the west everywhere in the word. Reply

Hi May 22, 2024
in response to question:

Also during the rest of the lecha dodi prayer we face east, or towards Jerusalem
It's just that part where we turn around and bow Reply

Chaim NYC May 21, 2024

Re: question 7
The custom is to turn to the west for the final stanza of בואי בשלום.
The ending בואי כלה is said three times. Once while nodding the head to the right, then once nodding to the left and then to turn back facing east, bow and say בואי כלה שבת מלכתא Reply

Frank Pennsauken May 21, 2024
in response to Chaim:

Yes, all of the above!
Remember Shabbat and keep it holy.
Recall the Hebrew words “keep it holy” also denotes marriage.
Therefore, it is as if G‑d is saying, “Remember My promise to the Shabbat, and be sure to marry her.”
Shalom. Reply
