John London February 29, 2024
in response to Shulamit:

If so, Shulamit, you should be able to answer the qquestion I've just addressed to Rabbi Menachem.. Can you? Reply

John London February 27, 2024

I got question 1 right, only because "6" wasn't one of the options for me to select. Rabbi Menachem, could you please explain why Zilpah and Bilhah aren't listed among the Matriarchs? Reply

Michael Morristown February 27, 2024

10/10. So easy this gentile can do it! Reply

Herman Vancouver July 3, 2023

10/10 for some body who’s Jewish that quiz should not be a problem
because all the answers are in the five Books of Moses Reply

John London July 11, 2023
in response to Herman:

but virtually all the published translations obscure the answer to Question 10. Reply

Christine Race Sacramento April 27, 2023

Thinking alot of us had 10 this time...this batch of questions among the easiest Ive taken on this quiz blast. Keep them coming - I look forward to them each week ! Reply

Axel Berger Köln-Ossendorf April 27, 2023

10/10, but this one was a bit too easy. In no. 3 instead of the very obvious alternatives you could have given Abraham's two (three?) wives, not Rivka of course.
I do look forward to the next of these quizzes every week, thank you Rabbi Posener. Reply

שולמיתש April 27, 2023

Easy but who fell off her camel. I had to think only one woman traveled to get to her husband. Sarah was already family. Rachel was by the well and Leah nothing said. Abraham sent his servant to get a wife for Yitzhak. He took Rivka back to Avraham to meet and marry Yitzhak. Reply

John London June 7, 2023
in response to שולמיתש:

All translations of Genesis 24:64 that I have found on the internet say that Rebeccah dismounted from the camel, some saying that she dismounted with some alacrity, none saying that she actually fell off it. But the word translated in Genesis 24:64 as "dismounted", תִּפֹּ֖ל occurs elsewhere in the Scriptures, and in some of these places it is correctly translated as "fell", "falls", or "will fall", etc.

Which translation was Rabbi Menachem using when he set this question? Or was he ad libbing directly from the Hebrew? Reply

Menachem Posner June 7, 2023
in response to John:

Indeed, in Hebrew it is pretty clear that she fell off the camel. Reply

John London July 11, 2023
in response to Menachem Posner:

To my mind, "fell off" as a translation has connotations which would be avoided if the phrase "dropped down from" were used - or do you really think that she was so bowled over by the sight of Yitzhak that she did an עֵלִ֥י without, in this particular case, fatal consequences? Reply
