in response to Yulanda :

Yulanda, That is seven pairs.......Right? Seven pairs of each species of clean animals.
I think Amelia is on the right track, if her exclamation point is for emphasis, not mathematical factoring. Bear stated it correctly with brevity.
We really don't know where to start to get an accurate total, because we don't know how many clean animals or species of clean animals there were, as Michael pointed out.
Thanks to all. Reply

in response to Amelia Holmes:

With all due respect, "7!"=5,040. The exclamation mark denotes the factorial function.

Genesis 7:2 states if clean animal, then seven pairs, males and their mates. If there were seven species of clean animals, then Noah would have brought

k=7
∑ 2×7=14+14+14+14+14+14+14=98
n=1

clean animals in the ark, which is 98÷2=49 pairs.

If Noah brought "7!" pairs of clean animals into the ark, then Noah brought 5,040 pairs of clean animals into the ark. 5,040x2=10,080 clean animals.

Hashem commanded Noah to collect seven groups of two animals from each species of clean animals; therefore, 10,080÷(2×7)=720 species of clean animals.

However, neither the text nor Rashi state how many clean animals or species of clean animals were on earth when Hashem commanded Noah to bring seven pairs of clean animals into the ark. Reply

8 of 10 is rather pathetic. We are all sons of Noah, and should know more, do better. Even an aging Christian with a failing memory. No excuses. Thank you for these quizzes Rabbi, I love these. Reply
