10/10. When I lived in South Africa for 62 years, we always called a challah "kitke" and after the Shabbat morning service in Shul or on a Jewish holiday, we enjoyed a brocha. Now that I live in Canada, it is a challah and a kiddush. Reply

4/10 And born South African. I realize that this quizz does not take the differences between Sephardi and Azkenazi into account. I am Sephardi. Reply

Aharon Johannesburg January 18, 2022

What a lag! Now that South African Jewry has made it onto chabad.org, we have arrived ;)

Great quiz Menachem, please share where the inspiration came from to create it.

P.s. What a “Lag” used above, pronounced lach, is Afrikaans for “that’s so funny!” Also commonly used by us SA Jews. Reply

Tzvi Friedl January 20, 2022
