8/10. Didn't really know about the adult bar mitzvah being a thing. I became a Jew on 12 Elul 5779, 40 years after my first conscious memories of learning about Judaism. At our shul, there really is no adult Bar Mitzvah program. My mother-in-law keeps saying I should push the rabbis to do one for me, but somehow, I feel like this honor should be reserved for young people as a rite of passage. I absolutely want to read from the Torah, which I have not yet done because I've only dabbled in trope. I've got the Biblical Hebrew down though bc I try to read a bit every day if possible. As a 49 year old Jewish man, I'm already a bar mitzvah and don't need to be honored, the honor would just be being able to read from the sefer Torah. With that in mind, does Chabad ever do online trope classes? We do have some people at shul who would help, but I feel they are better at doing than teaching. Reply

Menucha Canada December 14, 2021
in response to Tuvya:

Absolutely not for young people only! I'm sure if you ask your rabbi, they can help arrange it. Also, I think, I'm not sure though, but I think Chabad has trope audios available. :D Reply

Tuvya San Diego December 15, 2021
in response to Menucha :

Great, I will do a search for those audios. Thanks for the tip! As I said, I'm not even that interested in being honored as an adult Bar Mitzvah, I'm happy just working towards reading from the Torah and maybe leading some of the service, which a lot of our congregants do, down the road, just in the normal course of things. Reply

B"H I'm a noahide from Ghana
I got 6/ 10 I didn't know anything about bar/bat mitzvah. I'm 29 years. So please I may need your help about the bar/bat mitzvah brothers. Thanks
May Hashem bless you all Reply

Question 10 is somewhat ambivalent: If a Jewish male is over 13, they are bar mitzvah regardless of whether they have "celebrated" their bar mitzvah, no?
(Which would make the "correct" answer "none of the above" ;-) Reply

Tuvya San Diego December 12, 2021
in response to Bruce:

That was my thinking too. Well, we all knew B was not true, therefore C was not true, but the question was whether or not A was true, and I guess it is, therefore D was not true either. But I had guessed D as well, as I hadn't realized that any bar mitzvah who had not celebrated could do so at a later time. I don't find adult bar mitzvah celebrations to be in the spirit of the intended celebration to mark one's transition into adulthood though. It would be like celebrating your 30th birthday at 50 (wait, maybe not such a bad idea!) Reply

Gila Memphis December 14, 2021
in response to Bruce:

Yes, they have "become" a bar mitzvah already, but nevertheless they may choose to "celebrate" it at any time if they did not mark their 13th birthday with a celebration. Reply

Eileen Sickel DC December 9, 2021

I was raised reform. We had confirmation, not bat mitzvah. Bit the same result. We were now adults in the congregation and responsible for our own sins. Reply
