Married for 50 years, Stephen and Jane Raitt passed away within weeks of each other after a lifetime of dedication to their community and their family. Stephen passed away on April 5, followed by Jane on April 20.

Stephen was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and educated at University of Michigan, Hobart College, and New York University when he met his future wife, Jane, of Newark, N.J.

After they married in 1967, the newly minted Raitts moved to West Bloomfield, Mich., where she studied at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Wayne State University, earning a master’s degree.

A sales executive and lifetime entrepreneur, Stephen was joined in his career pursuits by Jane, who also became known as a career coach. She was also involved in communal advocacy, leading the effort to establish a dog park in their neighborhood. They were also regular synagogue-goers.

They returned to New Jersey in 2016, where they spent their final years together.

The couple is survived by their son Jayson and daughter Marni, in addition to a grandson. Stephen is also survived by a sister, Barbara; and Jane is survived by a sister, Judie.
