Thank you so much. I love Torah, a true guide to me and my family and to everyone we teach on Sabbath day. Reply

Question #8 - What was in the holy of holies? I found this to be a trick question. I know about the tradition of the rock used for setting the Ark there. But that is just a tradition. In 1 Kings 6:15, "He overlaid the floor of the house with planks of cypress." Then vs. 19-20, he fixed a shrine in which to place the Ark of the covenant, the interior 20 cubits long, 20 wide and 20 high. He overlaid it with solid gold & similarly it's cedar altar."
So, in view of these scriptures, why does tradition say there was a rock in the holy of holies? Reply

in response to Sandra :

Sandra:

In some old books, you can find sketches of the cave beneath the Rock, upon which the sacrifice of the son, was aborted. This cave is stylistically hidden as a motif, within much of Renaissance art. The cave, in cross-section, resembles a Champagne glass, turned upside-down. You will always find what the artist viewed as "the Rock", directly above this hidden motif.

The Holy of Holies of the Temple, was constructed as to be centered upon this Rock. That is what my own family's tradition teaches, anyway. This is within the 2nd Temple, not the 1st. Reply

The first temple was built out of cloth and was erected in the wilderness. there is much recent archeological findings and passages in scripture that indicate the temple quite possibly have been built lower in the Kidron valley. Reply

I took the test once more and scored 11 out of 11. I Remembered to look a little closer. I love tests like this. I feel that people should a little closer in the Torah. Some of Moshe's last words of instruction or advice, He said,Deuteronomy 32:47 " They are not just idle words for you-they are your life." Reply
