A non-conformist and prominent face on the British music scene in the 1970s, punk rocker Dave Greenfield passed away on May 3 as a result of complications due COVID-19, exacerbated by a pre-existing heart condition.
Greenfield was born on March 29, 1949, in Brighton, England. He taught himself the piano as a youngster and studied music theory.
He joined a punk group, the Stranglers, in 1975, not long after its formation, becoming their longtime keyboardist. He also wrote music and also harmonized with the band.
Greenfield was known to have endeared himself to his bandmates with his rough edge and unbridled passion over the course of a 45-year music career with them.
He was also a trained pilot.
Greenfield is survived by his wife, Pam.
