Eliyahu Meir Ballabon was a beloved member of the Viznitz Chassidic community in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn, N.Y., before his passing on April 22 as a result of COVID-19.
He was a well-known figure in the neighborhood as the son of Rabbi Yaakov Ballabon, a beloved schoolteacher in the Satmar yeshivah who educated generations of local residents.
Ballabon himself worked in Goldberg’s Freshmarket, a familiar face behind the counter for many years.
Predeceased by a son, he is survived by his wife and three children.
