Shira Blackstein passed away on April 17 after contracting COVID-19.

Blackstein was known to offer assistance wherever she could be of help.

For many years, she volunteered as a dispatcher for Hatzolah of Central New Jersey (Lakewood Hatzolah) emergency medical-response corps, a crucial and high-pressure job. She volunteered for other Chesed organizations as well.

Remembered as a kind, impressive and very learned woman, mourners also recalled how Blackstein was well-versed in the Tanach. When asked, she could explain any Haftorah portion someone was having trouble understanding.

Predeceased by her husband, she is survived by their five children: Yonah Blackstein, Zecharia Blackstein, Gavriel Blackstein, Temima Gotlieb and Chanina Rosenberg.
