A scion of Chassidic royalty, Rabbi Mordechai Dovid Rubin was descended from the famed Ropshitz Chassidic dynasty. He passed away on April 2 after complications resulting from COVID-19.

He was born to his parents, Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Yeshurun and Rebbetzin Alta Nechama Malka (Dachner) Rubin. His father led the Sulitza-Sasregen Chassidic group in Romania before he and his wife were killed in the Holocaust.

Rubin carried on the legacy of Sasregen, a Chassidishe dynasty from Szászrégen (Reghin), Transylvania, Romania, transplanted after the war to the Midwood section of Brooklyn, N.Y.

In 1955, he began embarked on a project that would take him more than three decades to complete: a complete encyclopedia of listing of every verse quoted in the Babylonian Talmud, with its source in the Tanach, titled Kol Hamikraos ShebeTalmud Bavli, which he completed in 1987.

He was married to Mirl Eichenstein.
