SECTION 105 The Law Applying to One who Recited Shemoneh Esreh Twice [in Succession]. (1)

סימן קה דִּין הַמִּתְפַּלֵּל שְׁתֵּי תְּפִלּוֹת וּבוֹ סָעִיף אֶחָד:

1 [The following law applies] when one recites Shemoneh Esreh twice in direct succession — e.g., the Shemoneh Esreh of Shacharis and Mussaf, or in an instance in which one forgot to pray, and since he must compensate for [the missing Shemoneh Esreh] at the time of the following prayer service,1 he recites Shemoneh Esreh twice in direct succession.2 In such a case, one must pause between one Shemoneh Esreh and the next3 so that his mind will be settled in order to present his words in a spirit of supplication. [Hence he must pause] the length of time it takes to walk four cubits.4 This applies even if he does not wish to return to the place at which he originally prayed, but instead recites the second Shemoneh Esreh in the place where he stood after taking [three] steps back following his first Shemoneh Esreh.5 If, however, [he desires] to return to his original place, he must wait even if he does not want to pray again, as will be explained in sec. 123[:3].
