Every year, as Purim approaches, I think back to the fear and dread that was our lot in the weeks before Purim 1953.
Stalin supported the ideology of a Jewish state, but opposed the Jews who requested to immigrate there.
A wave of arrests between the years 1948 and 1953 targeted Jews specifically.
Day after day, a vast number of articles appeared in the major newspapers about robberies, corruption, and swindling. The common denominator in all of them was that all of the suspects in these crimes had obvious Jewish names.
We were clueless as to the events transpiring in Chabad World Headquarters, 770 Eastern Parkway.
