Do not say, “I will pray on Shabbat with kavanah (concentration), but not on weekdays.” 1 For you are not to be like servants of the king who apply themselves to their work in the presence of the king but will not do it conscientiously in his absence. A person like that is not a faithful servant. 2

You must realize, with [proper] faith, that without the King it is bad for you. Thus repel all the guards until you come before the King. 3

You may not be able to speak before [the King], nor be worthy to come into His presence. Nonetheless, He will grant you your wish, for He is exceedingly merciful to you.
