You are sooo fortunate. Growing up in the Midwest there was no such thing. As the only Jewish girl [2 non-observant Jewish boys] in the school I told the teacher that I am not allowed to sing the Xmas songs and asked to go to another room. Angrily she told me I had to sit at a table in the same room with the chair facing the window. To this day Chanukah songs bring tears of joy to my heart as I think of my long term triumph over that evil teacher. In junior high I was the only Jewish girl [same 2 Jewish boys] I was allowed to go to another room. The only problem was that I could hear the Xmas songs through the vents. I then asked the principal if I could go home. He told me that he was a principal at another public school with many Jewish students and no one asked for such a thing. Not wanting to say anything negative about my fellow Jews I just said that I am more religious than they are. He allowed me to go home. Another triumph! Reply
