Happy Chanukah!

Dear reader,

It’s Chanukah once again!

Just when the nights get so long, so dark and so cold, we have these eight glorious and wondrous days of light and celebrations. As you sit by your menorah trying to absorb the special message of this holiday, please tell us what you like best about this holiday.

Below are some ideas. Tell us which of these you like best about Chanukah—and write to us your own thoughts about what Chanukah means to you, in the comment section below.

What do you like best about Chanukah…?

The presents or gifts of money.
The special family gatherings.
The bright light of the candles shining against the darkness.
Being offered doughnuts wherever you go.
Savory oily latkes.
Playing dreidel.
Chanukah’s message of a moral victory of right and light over darkness.

Happy Chanukah To you and your family Chana Weisberg! I am not as blessed as you are with all your family of G-d around, and your inmediaye ones, but I rejoice in the fact that there will be a future one for me and those I love... If they get to see the LIGHT and return to their roots lost in the darkness of this of this world. I light my candles alone and say my prayers. I finally cleaned and polished the brass Israeli menorah that my father painted about 50 years ago. It took me 3 hours, but it's beautiful and is a combination of his artistry and mine. Tonight my husband and I lit it with olive oil. Last night, I lit the Chanukiah that I painted at a ceramic paint-your-own store about 10 years ago and gave to my mother in Israel. She passed away two years ago and I finally could bring myself to light her menorah. So, as my brother said to me tonight, "One night it's Dad's menorah and one night Mom's." It's the brightest Chanukah in a long time. Reply

Chanukah favorites I like the light of the Menorah against the darkness of the sky. You can give presents for any reason but the tiny Menorah shining says a lot and keeps it simple. Reply

Hanukkah i love special family gatherings...I praise G-d for the gifts of family...I light my Menorah alone; since my Ex Husband has left me ten years ago. he lives with a non-Jewish woman and worships false teachings of a cult. But, I like this holiday because I remember it was his favorite Holiday (he did not go to Shul) and our kids loved the fun. Reply
