Artist’s Statement: When the Israelites came to the Reed Sea, G‑d required that they show their faith before the sea would split. Nacshon ben Aminadav of the Tribe of Judah walked into the sea, deeper and deeper. When the water reached his neck, G‑d split it.

Mordecai Colodner grew up in Brooklyn and graduated from Parsons School of Design in 1957. After working as a graphic designer in New York, Colodner moved to Tucson in 2005 where he developed an extensive series of works on themes from the Torah. He calls the collection “Visual Midrash” and it has been exhibited several times.
