Tears for Uvalde

May 25, 2022 3:48 PM

Sadly, the feeling is all-too familiar.

We stare at the news reports in disbelief, unable to comprehend how a human mind is tortured into wanting to harm innocent school children. We crave a panacea that will soothe the searing pain and unfairness of it all, but all words ring hollow.

And so we cry, we pray, we grieve, and we channel our angst into concrete action to make the world a more loving, safer, and better place for us all.

We find solace in sharing the pain with others, knowing that we are not alone. And we empower one another to create a world where every young person is educated to have a sense of accountability to a Higher Power, to develop their innate morality and kindness.

Join us in praying for the day when G‑d will “wipe away the tears from upon all faces”1 and peace and harmony will reign.

The Daily Torah Study to Energize Your Day

May 18, 2022 10:07 PM

For many, it’s become as much a part of their daily routine as their morning coffee or the daily Wordle: Jews around the world study the daily mitzvah from MaimonidesSefer Hamitzvot as a way to infuse meaning and Torah in their day.

The daily mitzvah is part of a comprehensive study program of the works of Maimonides launched by the Rebbe—Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory—in 1984. This year, the annual cycle begins again on Lag BaOmer, Thursday, March 19th.

With Chabad.org’s Daily Study app, it’s possible to follow the mitzvah in Hebrew and English and with a daily podcast elucidating its meaning and message. And now, as we embark on a new cycle, is an excellent time to get involved.

Have you been studying the daily mitzvah? Let us know what it’s been like in the comments.

Tractate Sotah Now Available in Daily Study App

May 11, 2022 7:33 PM

People on the go have long enjoyed the Chabad.org Daily Torah Study App, which allows them to easily access text, commentary and audio classes for the building blocks of the daily Torah study cycle: The weekly Torah portion, the monthly Tehillim (Psalms) cycle, the yearly Tanya review, as well as the various tracks for studying Mishneh Torah (Rambam) and Hayom Yom.

Now, they are also able to use the app to access the day’s page of Talmud Tractate Sotah, which is customarily studied during the Omer period, which runs from the second day of Passover to the day before Shavuot.

Each day, they can tap to enjoy the lucid and accessible class offered by master teacher Rabbi Avraham Meyer Zajac, who recently celebrated the momentous achievement of delivering recorded classes on every page of the Talmud.

And now, they can also access the actual text of the Talmud—the original Hebrew/Aramaic, and an excellent English translation and commentary from the acclaimed Steinsaltz Talmud—enabling students to follow in the original and benefit from the additional elucidation.

Dubbed “the most accessible Talmud,” the Koren Talmud Bavli fuses the innovative design of Koren Publishers with the unrivaled scholarship of the late Rabbi Adin Even-Israel (Steinsaltz).
