An address to children at the 1984 Lag B’omer parade
“You shall love your fellow as yourself.” We see this commandment expressed here today
through the great number of Jewish children who have gathered together. Although you come
from different walks of life, you all sit together today, showing esteem for one another, and
resolving together to grow in Torah and Mitzvos.

Jews are a diverse and numerous people, but when it comes to Jewish practice we stand
upright together as one single nation. We follow, and are bound to, the one Torah given to us
by the one G-d, for one united purpose: to make this world a dwelling place for G-d.
By fulfilling the resolutions we make here together, G-d will fulfill His own promise to take
every single Jew out of exile. “A great multitude will return here” — when Jews unite
together, they already create a “great multitude,” and they are prepared for the ultimate
gathering with the true and complete Redemption.
