An address at the 1967 Lag B’omer Parade, less than a week before the Six Day War
All events related to Torah and Mitzvos are not “of the past.” Rather, they instruct us how
we must conduct ourselves and what we must do in order to be proper children of G-d.
Lag B’omer is the day of rejoicing of Rabbi Shimon ben Yochai. He established that in the
merit of adding in Torah and Mitzvos a Jew can bring deliverance to everyone around him.
G-d is protecting your brothers and sisters in the Holy Land and sending them His blessings
in added measure so that they may emerge – and they will emerge – from their current
situation successfully. But you have the unique privilege to help them. Every time you study
one more verse of Torah or perform one more Mitzvah – and you influence your friends and
family to do the same – this saves every Jew wherever he may be from the difficulties he is
facing, and it brings him G-d’s increased blessing for salvation and success.
