Human & Jewish
Thank you, Rabbi, for the funny and enlightening lesson. I confess to having done almost the same thing you described. A few years ago I was on a jury panel in the southern city where I live. One of the attorneys asked each panel member to state his or her race. Those who appeared light skinned said white, and those who were dark-skinned said African-American. When it was my turn I said I belong to the human race, and moreover that I believe the concept of race was invented solely for purposes of oppression. And you are so right, Rabbi. More than 60 years ago my dear mother told me I am meshugge.

Human & Jewish
I burst out laughing; I was actually reprimanded by a previous university employer for writing "Human Earthling" when asked for my "ethnicity" on the application! And I am a practicing Jew...but I found the question too particularistic when I believe that all of us have a job bringing Light to the masses--Jewish and non-Jewish :-)

Its a mitzvah to imitate our creator. We also try to imitate a Rebbe, teacher or mentor. A chasid tries to acquire at least some measure of his Rebbe's personality and character. This class tries to give us an observation of one measure of the Rebbe's qualities which we may try to emulate.
