Priorities and Obligations
Chana I agree with the concept of balance but your children especially when they're really young must be your priority-----and sometimes other obligations----unless emergency situations have to take back seat---in order to grow up in a loving manner. Shabbos is great and necessary--and the week sometimes is really hectic---but mothers especially your children need you and your husband as well. My grandmother told me when your children are young its the best time of your life---be happy and balance is good but do what you can----

Balance
one of the things i've learned is how to say NO! believe me, people accept "I can't this time", better than us making commitments then breaking them or not being able to give it our best because of being spread too thin.

Balance
You are right..

She forgot what she was supposed to be talking about...

Those of us with kids (especially special needs kids), elderly parents, professional careers we cannot give up because of the realistic fear that our husbands may lose their jobs, are trying to balance all of these needs with our own -- to stay sane, to be physically and mentally in shape, prepare healthy meals, keep a nice home, etc., etc... really struggle with 'balance issues.'

Shabbat is important --and certainly brings balance to our lives on a weekly basis -- but on a daily basis, we often need more answers and advice from others...

shabat - and specially the day before shabat - needs so many efforts!!! you have to be a very balanced person to do everything as it must be..so, how to find balance? not to forget: all that happens with us - divine providence; all that we have to do - is the task given by G-d, and giving it He knows our abilities. and of course - joy, tranquility and love! :)

doesn't answer the question
This doesn't answer the question of finding balance. Shabbat is very nice, but this doesn't answer anything about the rest of the week - how to find balance between career, kids, aging parents - that was the first question and what is the answer?
