Traditional Dairy Dutch Apple Pie

This recipe is my family recipe for traditional (dairy) Dutch apple pie:

  • 1 1/4 cup self-rising flour
  • 3/4 cup honey or sugar
  • 120 gr. melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • handful of nuts (optional)
  • handful of raisins (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
  • 3-4 big apples (peel and core, chop in pieces)

Mix the self-rising flour, honey, butter and eggs together until it's a nice consistent light-yellow matter. If it is very runny, had some flour to it. I sometimes put a teaspoon of cinnamon through the mix, to give it that little kick and to really have the apple flavors come out.

Put the mix in a greased baking tin, covering the full lining of the tin and don't forget to push it onto the sides of the tin.

Then sprinkle the apples on (with optional raisins and nuts if you like). I usually mix the apples through a teaspoon of cinnamon to give them a lovely smell. Press the apples down into the dough and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of honey or sugar.

Bake in an oven for 1 hour at 350F. Let it cool off a little and sprinkle with some icing sugar. Then serve with some whipped cream and drizzle some honey over it.
