Rosh Hashana – Day of the Jewish Mother

27 Elul, 5740 • September 8, 1980

On Rosh Hashana, we are reminded of the Jewish mother’s dedication and self-sacrifice in fostering our nation’s deep commitment to G‑d.

I just want to say that I think this is so beautiful that we can sit in our own homes and share in the wisdom of the Rebbe. The Rebbe knew that we as Jewish Mothers have very difficult decisions to make with our children and our families and we must do true tschuvah to lead a torah observant life. The Rebbe was also patient with working up to more and more mitzvot. A Jew or Jewess should never be afraid to come to Torah with even the barest minium of knowledge or observance of mitzvot. And no other Jew should make him or her feel anything but. Blessings to all for a good and sweet new year and for the immediate arrival of Moshiach NOW!
