To Accomplish

I lay awake last night,
And thought about my day,
And then I wondered where I was, for what was I to say,
If someone asked me what I did
And who I had become
And how many I had helped,
What would I have done?
And then I realized that my day, though long and hard it was,
Meant nothing if I hadn’t stopped
To help someone in need
For that is why we are here,
To stop and help each other
For to be here for ourselves alone
Is self-defeating, purpose lost, unknown
Our purpose here IS to stop, though it seems a waste of time,
And through this we accomplish more
Than we could have ever dreamed.
