In Memory of My Mother

solitude
emergency
legendary

solstice
dawn
emerging
sunset
warmth
the sabbath
my mother’s awakening
my observance tightening
all i can say about my mother
is that art has beauty and to see one’s mother
is to see her prepare the sabbath
for one
for all
for offering to Hashem

Hashem, why have you taken her
the sacrifice
those were the most beautiful three years of my life
she gave me life
i lent her mine
she gave me her father’s name

now the journey begins . . .
au revoir maman
i am not a poet

just a child
at my mother’s bed
