My Youth Slipped Through My Fingers

My youth slipped through my fingers
like an air-filled balloon.
Memories pass before me-
it happened all too soon.

I should have held it tightly,
maybe tied it to my arm.
Should have clutched it
and embraced it-
Preventing any harm.

Nothing should have neared it
and made me old so quick.
Yet my youth slipped through my fingers,
A choice I didn't pick.
