The Parshah in a Nutshell
Behar in a Nutshell

Leviticus 25:1-26:2

On the mountain of Sinai, G-d communicates to Moses the laws of the sabbatical year. Every seventh year, all work on the land should cease, and its produce becomes free for the taking for all, man and beast.

Seven sabbatical cycles are followed by a fiftieth year -- the jubilee year, on which work on the land ceases, all indentured servants are set free, and all ancestral estates in the Holy Land that have been sold revert to their original owners.

Behar also contains additional laws governing the sale of lands, and the prohibitions against fraud and usury.

Behar
Apart from grain production, how would you obey the 'Behar' requirements if you are in fruit production (orchard mgt.) or lifestock production, or sheepfarming?

Is Behar strictly speaking applicable only for grain growers?

Behar
Everything in the world has to have a rest and recuperate. This includes the land and humans. That is why Sabbath exists.

who are?
who are the original owners? do you mean G-d doesnt believe in social justice and spreading the wealth around for all to share? what a revelation and that i can finally go back to my original property as i am tired of renting and/or giving away the farm to the collective. only in Israel could this be done and praise G-d for that. for the world needs a role model these days.
