(FJC.ru) The teachers' manual "The People of Israel are Alive" is being tested in the eighth grade class of the Ohr Avner Chabad-Lubavitch Day School in Dneprodzerzhinsk, Russia.

The new manual covers European Jewish life from the 16th to 18th centuries. It includes methodological recommendations for teachers, maps, a glossary and chronological charts showing the creation of the world until the modern era.

"This comprehensive work was done in order to help develop the existing and necessary feeling of genuine Jewish pride, pride that enables you to feel a sense of belonging to your people, responsibility and internal happiness," commented Dina Stambler, who led this project.

The initiative producing the manual involved a team of historians and teachers, including specialists from the Ohr Avner Chabad Day School in Dneprodzerzhinsk, the Beit Ulpan High School in Jerusalem, and Machon Tal, an affiliate of Jerusalem's Machon Lev Institute.

Work is currently under way to produce similar textbooks for use in the sixth, seventh, ninth and 10th grades.
