Long Island Teens Honored for Jewish Volunteerism

Echoing similar events taking place around the country, a group of Jewish teenagers on Long Island received accolades for their dedication to helping children with special needs.

The Monday appreciation dinner organized by Chabad-Lubavitch of West Hempstead, N.Y., pointed to the volunteers at its Friendship Circle – part of an international Jewish organization that pairs teenagers with children with special needs – as valuable additions to the lives of local children.

“Our special friends blossom and gain the confidence they need to make the most of their abilities and talents,” said Rabbi Yossi Lieberman.

And “their teen volunteers learn the priceless value of giving, the curative power of friendship, and the vital importance of integrating children with special needs into our communities,” added Chaya Rochel Lieberman, the organization’s family coordinator.
