Lego Menorah Kindled in Canada

Hundreds of people, including Member of Parliament Peter Kent, local Mayor Frank Scarpitti and the deputy mayor, packed Chabad-Lubavitch of Markham, Canada, on the second night of Chanukah to light what residents believed was one of the world’s largest Lego menorahs.

Musical entertainment was provided by the suburban Toronto center’s Torah Tots Preschool and international performer Chaim Fogelman.

At the invitation of Rabbi Avraham E. Plotkin, director of Chabad of Markham, Scarpitti assisted in the lighting of the menorah. Later in the evening, Member of Parliament Peter Kent delivered greetings on behalf of Prime Minster Steven Harper, who reiterated Canada’s support for the State of Israel.

The menorah itself was built by Rabbi Yossi Berktin and a group of children from the Chabad House.

“This was the best party ever!” exclaimed parent Ryanne Reingold. “Seeing our children dancing with such a love for their Judaism brought tears to my eyes.”
