1978: Students Spread over Manhattan

Armed with tefillin and A Thought for the Week, students begin hitting Manhattan streets on Friday afternoons. Coordinated by the Lubavitch Youth Organizations, hundreds of rabbinical students are given weekly "routes." The target: office building and stores. The goal: putting on tefillin with the men and promoting mitzvah observance by all Jews. Today Chabad students make these weekly visits across the entire globe; from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, California.
