1970: Tefillin at Sinai

In an effort to recapture the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, joined by Russian and PLO fighters, begin the War of Attrition. The Rebbe sent his Chassidim to the frontlines with a message to the soldiers not to be frightened by the attacks. Soldiers who committed to putting on tefillin daily would receive a pair of tefillin paid for by the Rebbe himself.
