The Creator

I know what you’re thinking. You have to watch it at least twice.

Ok, now it all makes sense, right? Oh. Hmmmm….

A few years ago I was in a train station on the way back from teaching at a summer camp, when I noticed that a younger friend of mine, maybe 15 years old, seemed to be caught in a heated theological debate that was more than he was prepared to deal with. The topic of the debate seemed to be whether G-d could be a person. I immediately recognized the necessity to diffuse this conflict, but rather than appreciating that this was a sensitive religious issue that deserved better than an arrogant teenager in a train station, I decided I would simply win the debate in under a minute. As I approached the two theologians, I heard the man say “G-d is a human being. A completely perfect human being.” So I asked “How did G-d become perfect?” The man responded “He was created that way.” AHA! This was it. Check mate! All I needed to do was show him that he was talking about a creation, and not the Creator, and centuries of religious conflict would be over. “Oh,” I said, “then who created G-d?” The man paused, and then answered “I did. I’m the creator.” And then I realized what was going on here- he was delusional.

A few weeks ago when I was trying to think up an idea for the first in this series of animated cartoons, I went through several different stories that explained some idea associated with Parshat Bereishit and creation. The problem was that they were just that- explanations, when what I needed was an experience. And that’s when my mind turned to the man in the train station and how he took an intellectual idea and made it a reality for me. As far as I was concerned I was fully qualified to debate that idea (in a train station, no less)- which is proof of how little I actually understood it. But it took someone who really perceived his side of the issue as a reality, for me to begin to appreciate the reality of my own beliefs.

So I guess that’s what I was trying to do here – share my train station man with you. I hope you like him.

Train Truth
Our very breath depends on the Creator. Just because I decide on this that or the other in my life does not imply creation.

I know a lot of "delusional" people who are just as lost as "the King of the Moon".

Love the motion of the train :-)

We are all the creator
I think we are all the creator. Psychologically and spiritually speaking. From a young age we give meaning to meaningless events, and every time that event repeats itself we feel that same emotions. Overtime these events and emotions attach to us and we start to identify with them. "I don't like this, I like that. I am a graduate, I am a teacher." The truth and reality is, is that we're nothing, we're simply what we created, most of which at a young age. The way we act is simply based on beliefs we created as irrational children resulting from events. If we transcend beyond the "I" or the "Ego" we will see that we are in fact the creator, creators of our personality, our profession, our relationships, and our lives. We are the creators, and we're all one and the same.

King of the moon
I know a couple of things about truth. Number one, all truth is G-d's truth. Number two, it doesn't matter how we love to push and pull it, the truth will always remain true. I'm always learning, and I know how inept I am when it comes to explaining things. That's why I think these vignettes are outstanding. Not to mention hilarious! So, I cannot explain certain things, but I know if G-d said it, then it's true. And if a person wants to argue with it, well, then perhaps they just aren't desiring to know the truth yet.

Aliens?
At least the crazy guy realize that he's only king of the moon....maybe. The newspaper guy could accept his second answer because he can be an alien if he wants but he just can't be G-d.

the king of the moon!
That was the funniest part! He is not the King of anything, but he does not know that he would probably continue claiming kingship until he realzed the Truth that we are nothing and G-d is everything. We often times forget that G-d is the only King and we feel priviliged to claim things as our own. We are the guy who thinks he is king and it's nice to laugh at him/ourselves as we are reminded of the Truth that G-d is One.
