Devarim: Does G-d Use Mapquest?

This week we begin the fifth book of the Torah, Deuteronomy, where Moses speaks his last words to the Jews before they enter into the Land of Israel.

What's surprising is that the Torah is quite vague when providing the location of their encampment, and just states that they were "on the other side of the Jordan river."

Why would G-d not tell us where exactly along the Jordan they were? Are we supposed to guess if they were near Jericho or perhaps closer north to the Kinneret?
