Bamidbar – G-d's Recount



In the opening parshah of the book of Numbers, G-d commands Moses and Aaron to conduct a census of the Jewish people.

Sounds like a sensible idea; except for the fact that Judaism believes that G-d is all-knowing. There is nothing in our universe that He does not know, including the exact population of the Jewish people. What then is the point in counting them?
