the Jewish day starts at sundown. re when to light
Since the ancient Jews decided a day begin and ends with the setting of the sun, each holiday begins at sundown. Myaybe because because it is observable and clear. Mid-night is more theoretical. So the "calendar day" begins at dusk on the "day before".

If. Chanukah be gins on Dec 8, that means 1Kislev begins the dusk Dec 7th.

Chanukah Observance
My family observed the Chanukah in our own special way considering we don't have rabbis here in the Philippines to guide us.

We lighted 8 candles one candle each day, and every day as we lighted those candles, we read the Macabees glorious triumphs over the pagan forces trying to annihilate the Faith.

We hope someday we can have our own menorah to be used on ocasions like this.

That was a wonderful and informative video. It would have been nice to talk about what the 8 days means.
