The synopsis of the meaning of the words is on the notes of another music file on this site, Totally Chasidic by the Jewish Learning Group. I looked it up because I also think this is an amazing song and I would like the original text. "This song of joyful repentance, Sephardic in origin, was sung at a farbrengen for the first time by the Chassid, Reb Yehoshua Hadah, who was born in French Morocco and educated in Chabad schools there. It has often been sung at Chassidic gatherings, symbolizing the love and kinship of all Jews. "Help me O G-d to conquer temptation; Without You, O savior, there's no salvation."

This is actually the work of Rabbi Refael Antabi, a 19th-century composer of liturgical poems.
In it, he asks G-d to assist him in his struggle with his yetzer harah (evil inclination) and to help him repent for his past misdeeds.

Here are the lyrics!

There is a beautiful clip of the Rebbe singing this song, especially the third stanza. It is on the CD entitled Maaseh Rav 15 at the very end.
|
the Rebbe told them to add this and two others to this record

Sefardi Songs come from the inner most parts of the soul. They grasped Chassidic ideas long before the Chassids themselves did.

Gershom: Why not? Lubavitch is for all Jews. I'm a proud Syrian Jew, and I have a recording of my grandfather A"H singing that same song. Michael, this is one of my favorite songs, but I don't think there's such a thing as a "best" song when it comes to Lubavitcher niggunim. They are all beautiful.
