The three parts of this Niggun were composed respectively by the three first Rebbes of Chasidus - The Baal Shem Tov, the Mezritcher Magid and the Alter Rebbe (who founded Chabad Chasidus). The Lubavitcher Rebbe notes that each part of this Niggun expresses greater longing and intensity. Thus, each Rebbe built on the composition of his predecessor, adding to it.

This niggun comprises of three stanzas, each one composed by another Rebbe. The first was composed by the Baal Shem Tov. The middle one was added by the Maggid of Mezrich. And the third was added by the Alter Rebbe.
