Lyrics:

Transliteration:

Kol dodi dofeik pischi li achosi rayosi yonosi tamosi.

Translation:

"I sleep, but my heart is awake. Hark! My beloved is knocking: Open for me, my sister, my beloved, my dove, my perfect one, for my head is full of dew, my locks with the drops of the night."

Song of Songs 5:2

Musical Notes

The deeply moving tones of this melody give expression to the significance of the verse. The heavenly call of the G-dly voice awakens and summons man's soul to permit G-dliness to enter his heart. In the last phrase of the melody we have the reply of the soul. It is ready to fulfill its mission of the heavenly design to illuminate the world with sanctity through Torah and Mitzvoth.

This melody is one of the ten composed by the Alter Rebbe himself. The Previous Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yoseph Yitzchok, once explained that with the power inherent in this melody the Alter Rebbe could purify and refine a Jewish soul.

And onward home...
In religious Zionism, this verse is viewed as G-d's call to us to go up and show that we want Moshiach. G-d asks us to open for him then we will come in.

Hundreds of years of oppression and persecution, winters and shetls. But lo a a flicker of a flame that burns through it all, a story told of a G-d who found a people, and a people who proclaimed this faith through all time, even in the coldest and darkest of places; souls express their longing.

I like this arrangement, but it doesn't really correspond very well with the provided score.
