I'm not sure the video accurately conveys the message that you want to give. How do you portray an image of a destitute man and claim that money does not define our essential worth? - One may not sit in the comfort of our offices and preach to the unemployed how to define their worth. Do you know the struggle of the homeless or the destitute? I am more inclined to hear you if you tell me about how essential worth is defined instead of denying that the suffering of others is real to them!
|
Dr Sacks, may I suggest that you check out the stick figure vignettes - I think the message there is closer to what you wish to see.
And yes, I do agree with you that to glibly state that "life's losses can come and go but it is nothing compared to our essential worth" is perhaps insensitive to those who have experienced tragedy. I would speculate that those people who have undergone such pain probably see their lives defined by it - eventually in a positive sense - rather than simply as a rainy day...

I think what this video wants to show us is that no matter whats the circumstances are our essence or our real being is the same....

Of course life at times is very tragic, and for some unbearable. Do any of us fully understand why G-d sends us various circumstances? How can we, it is all too complicated. My Mom always said “most of the time it's really difficult to know what is going on around you. So always stay under the shadow of G-d and let Him lead". My family is having a really, really hard time right now financially. My husband and I might lose our family home of 26 years. But I get up every morning and cover myself with the insights, courage, and faith of the sages that came before me and I pray and I pray. I really don't pray to keep the house, instead I pray for the courage of those who have walked before me. I pray to remain calm, and immovable in faith. Above all I do not desire to get wrapped up in the drama of this earthly reality because at the end of the story this is just temporary housing anyway. Most of our lives are not totally tragic they are more like the video. So I think we can do this...
|
My mom always said "G-d helps those who help themselves."
|
The more you help yourself and the harder you work towards that goal and the relentless efforts you put forth, G-d will help you achieve.
G-d is always at the finish line ready to greet you but G-d will not pick you up and carry you.

We were taught from early childhood by our grandparents "G-d never closes one door before opening another." My rule in life is one day at a time. We must keep looking for the open door, have the faith to walk in the direction He wants us to go.
|
This might sound like a strange thing to say, but just let the LORD remove the yoke from upon your wearisome shoulders. Try not to struggle, as it tends to detract from the deep lessons being taught, A. Kramish has the right idea...

I think this is an encouraging video. I know that God is in total control of His creation. He loves us and has always been a great parent. He will continue to take care of His Children. We are to continue to praise Him in our circumstances, we are to continue to be kind, and helpful to others.

I received a call from my employer stating that I was being laid off "effective today". He said I am sorry we just do not have the budget to maintain your position. He said that I was not alone, because a great number (25%) of the workforce had the same fate.
I was shocked, but at peace, because I knew in my heart that G-d was in control! I also held steadfast to the fact that G-d is good all the time! That means He is good to me whether or not I have a job. He is good to me all the time. I prayed for G-d to open my eyes to the good in this situation. I actually prayed to have the Lord's eyesight, so that I would be readily able to discern His goodness, truth and control in my life. G-d heard my request and answered my prayer. I

Loved it! very inspiring!

Thank you for such a simple portrayal of the vagarities of life issues. G-d does not measure us by our bank account, but by our heart motives. Some down times may be our own known cause, or an inadvertent overreaching in our planning, or sometimes totally out of our control. Regardless of the cause, G-d is watching to see how we will respond.

What we are is more important than what we have. The best is to be in G-d.

When I finish watching this amazing video for the first time, I remembered immediately the words of UNETANEH TOKEF, I don´t know why... To face hard times it is a better approach to think on any dfficulty as an individual challenge to overcome, like baby steps. In that times, we should remember the allmighty G-d gave us powerful things that are better than whealt: the Torah that is perfect and have answers to all questions and solutions for all situations.
|
Amazing how a video can be so short, and yet so powerful.

I have just been tested by a fire forcing me out of my apartment. All the friends and support that I received from the community made me so aware of how G-d is holding my hand. He is leading me. I may not understand how or why this happened, I just know that He has a plan for me and "this too is for the good."
|
Well put --- you hit the nail on the head.
|
Thank you for reminding me what is important in life and that we are worth more than the sum of the money we have in the bank.
|
What was said was true. But...It made it seem so easy. But it is not. I myself feel unable, for good reasons, to leave the awful uncertainties and dreadful unhappiness of life with an abusive husband. The bouncy, up-beat music of your video hurts me.
|
Thank you for reminding me of what is important. I've read the posts made by others and I realize more than ever that we are all in this together. So it's important to me to be available to listen, give and pray with others.

As I divorce, send off my son to college, and must place my father in a nursing home, I am finding G-d in all those who take an extra minute to give me a hug and say they understand. It is the small things in life, that end up making life bearable....and finally enjoyable. So thank you to all the anonymous smiles and prayers! They do help!

Do these days' headlines remind anyone else of the portrayal in Deut:28 of a nation that had been blessed with the best that the entire world hs to offer, and then has rejected the God of their fathers. The second half of the chapter describes a nation no longer sure of itself, no longer a loaning people but a debtor one, where the aliens in its midst defy its own laws, that instead of military power and reputation that 5 men will chase 50, instead, fifty will flee from five enemies (not sure of the exact number there). Perhaps, if America atones as fully as Ninevah, this deepening vortex can be adverted. Otherwise we are living in the last days of America. No more God Blessed America, but one by one the blessings are withdrawn.
|
Mary,
Just continue to trust G-d, soon you will be calling Him by His Holy NAME!
All blessings to you.

Short and very concentrated, easy to understand.

Our G-D is the same now and forever, and we trusth is for HIM in all times. Shalom

This may sound silly, but my husband and I are doing well financially. Our home will shortly be paid off, we bought a new Honda Civic LX2008, we completly re-tiled our whole house, we are taking a trip to Israel, Austria and Hungary. We do feel sorry for those people who have lived beyond their means while we have lived way under ours
|
Its nice you can afford the trip! You certainly can ( and do) take pride in your prudence! But I sense that you do not truly feel sorry for those who have lived "above their means" and in fact feel satisfied that your years of self-denial has allowed you the satisfaction of financial security. Poor Angela, you will find that all wealth is from our Creator. And no amount of planning can stave off God's will for you. "Man plans, God laughs!"
|
Well done and much appreciated.
|
Be careful of thinking that you or others have control over your circumstances. You could, G-d forbid, tomorrow find yourself with terrible health issues or the loss of a job that would cause financial pressures you cannot imagine. Just as the video shows, there are good times and bad -- life is a cycle.

How every thought, speech, and deed can make a world of difference. Although today's world is a scary place, as evident from the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, one good deed can tip the scales. In Waves, hear the Rebbe explain how each deed, however insignificant it may seem, is universally important.

The Rebbe's relentless call for every Jew to never rest The Rebbe's message was as old as the Torah itself, yet his approach was as rousing as dawn. He urged each person, in personal and communal life, to never be satisfied with yesterday's achievements or today's successes, but to soar tomorrow to even greater heights.

The Torah Solution to Achieving True Peace in Israel. Throughout Jewish history, through times serene and turbulent, the People of Israel looked to the Torah for guidance and stability. Only through steadfast adherence to Torah principles, - the Rebbe insisted - can Israel achieve true peace.
