the variation in the music from this familiar song makes you think another time the meaning of the words. When I saw this I thought, children are really a gift .

It's so dificult for me to find a hannukah CD (or anything hanuka, including cards) in europe. I guess another year without hannukah music at home around the table...

I especially liked that the children singing in this video are serious . I know it's supposed to be a children's holiday, but sometimes people overdo the childish part and it perturbs even the children. I remember from my childhood. Music is a discipline and an art. Jewish holidays are meaningful for us and we shoudn't copy Christmas and overdo certain things.

Chanukah, oh Chanukah, come light the Menorah
Chanukah, oh Chanukah, come light the Menorah
Gather around the table and let’s have a treat
Happy songs we’ll sing and latkes we’ll eat

And while we are singing
The candles are burning bright
One for each night, they shed a sweet light
And remind us of days long ago

Oh Chanukah, oh Chanukah, a festival of joy
A holiday, a jolly day, for every girl and boy
Gather around the table and let’s have a treat
Happy songs we’ll sing and latkes we’ll eat

And while we are singing
We’ll think of those days long ago
And then we’ll tell the story of the miracles, glory
And dance by the candles burning low

the song we sing in our choir is like this, but different.
it goes:
Light the bright Menorah, we'll all dance the hora, now we light the candles eight in a row watch them burning brightly cheerfully glow, tell a story__ tell story. Story of the days of old, Judea Maccabee fought to set his people free he was fearless courageous and bold!

Thank you so much for having this online. My kindergarten class is learning about Hanukkah this month and this has been a treat. We living in rural KY with one Jewish family in our whole county. Channukah in East Tennessee
I am a second grade teacher trying to enlarge my students' experiences. Finding your website and sharing this song has been invaluable in this endeavor. This wonderful choir singing "Oh Chanukah" has become our classroom favorite! We have the words memorized! Such a great way to share your heritage with a bunch of Baptists! Thanks!

It brings my back to my Parents who are both in Heaven now, I miss them with all my heart everyday and always will, along with my grandmother who is in heaven. this has always been a special song in my heart. We would always sing it on Chanukah.

Chanukah song
Beautiful voices, perfectly heard every word, amazing harmony. You can see these boys really rehearsed and are talented, each one. Too bad they had to wear such weird costumes, very distracting from the gorgeous music. Oh, and too bad there wasn't at least one verse in Hebrew.

Dress and Composition of Chanuka
Why are they all wearing high hats and black suits with red ties and white shirts?
They all look like child vampires!!!!

And why are there are no young ladies in the chorus? Is Judaism sexist????

Oh, Chanukah!
Why must the boys wear top hats, red-lined black jackets with gold ties? I can't be the only one who sees simularities to these outfits....& the traditional clothing of....(shudder) vampires? (and so close after Halloween....the holiday that celebrates God's Gift of the Imagination! ) Why couldn't they wear medium-blue and white outfits, reminiscent of the Israeli flag? (The gold bow ties are still cute!) And -- where is a Girl's choir? A mixed choir?...

to all those asking why no girls singing...
the torah forbids men and women singing together, as well as men listening to girls singing. im not so sure about the exact laws, so ask a reliable rabbi for all of the laws.

Oy Chanukah!
I totally agree with Alexandra about the costumes. Top hats? Give me a break. And to "Anonymous" in NY, NY...having girls the same age as these boys singing would NOT constitute hearing WOMEN.

I am a Christian, and really enjoyed this video. I am impressed by all the jewish comments made although some of the comments were obviously made by ignorant people. May God bless all the these young lads who gave such a beautiful performance.

I always love to see the joy on singing faces
Whatever was said long ago, in this day and age you have yo say there is nothing humanly inappropriate in the choir helping celebrate Chanukah. I too am a gentile but since I was adopted who knows boobe? Let them sing and feel free to enjoy.
