Miri Makes Trouble

Posted by Rabbi Infinity

This week, we have a special guest writer, Rabbi Tzvi Freeman, author of KabbalaToons.

Thank you, Rabbi Infinity, for providing your kind introduction. But truth be told, I don't consider myself the author of KabbalaToons. Perhaps co-author would be a more appropriate title. You see, Rabbi Infinity is at least as much the author as myself. And Miri as well. And yes, Feivel too.

I can already hear Rabbi Infinity protesting. That's just the point. How could I hear a character protesting if he's only a fictional character?

Because that's how a real writer writes and a true author authors: Not by stuffing words in the mouths of dumb figments of his imagination, dictating their every move and shlepping them helplessly down the rigid road of his preconceived plot. The real author first conjures up characters and themes, brings them alive in his mind, befriends them, explores the intricacies of their personalities and private lives—and then allows them to dictate their own stories and words to him as he transcribes.

That, after all, is the technique by which the Grand Author Of All Stories composed this story in which we all play. "With whom did He consult?" ask the rabbis. And then they answer (rabbis are wont to answer their own questions that way), "He consulted with the souls of the righteous."

He conceived of these souls, knew them intimately as He knows His own self (so to speak—because knowing is also a creation, and nothing had really been created yet, so what's He doing knowing anything? But that's for another blog…), and then, according to the dictates of these souls, that is how He composed a universe. So that, to this day, whatever those righteous souls demand of Him, He listens up. (See the blog to Give Life, Get Life for more on this.)

All our souls are righteous. We are all co-authors of the universe.

—Tzvi Freeman, very humble co-author

Thank you, Rabbi Freeman, especially for your exceeding humility. And now, in keeping with the theme of those kabbalistic words, I would like to turn to all our co-authors out there and ask (cuz Rabbi Freeman and I are kinda lost on this one), "What do you think should happen next?"

Comment.
First, I enjoyed watching the video. Second, I would change the concept a bit. First, the character R. Infinity would pull the plug and then all of the creations would disappear or you could use the powerful Isifier vacuum cleaner that was designed for this type of emergency. Second, R. Infinity would act like a teacher and guide Miri into speaking prayer words which would form into a crown and give off light somewhere in the world which would cause prevention of the usual types of blunders/mishaps that happen in the world. She'd be given a training book and in each episode she'd be doing a different prayer. You could emphasize how important it is not to miss a single prayer and just to say a quick sentence on the greatness of it and also the importance of saying a prayer in its right time and also b'tzibbur.

Miri's Day
Maybe you could do a little play with the idea of multiple or alternate realities? I'm really not sure what to suggest here, but I really loved this episode.

Pray!
Once the power of creation has been taken over by people with no conscience, the only thing left to do is pray, otherwise the world may deteriorate back into a state of primordial Tohu!
The letters produced by articulating our prayers (with the correct kavvanah, of course) have the power to overcome the imaginary evil powers that threaten to destroy us. The words of prayer will allow us to regain control of the universe and we will discover that the evil powers are merely toys for us to play with and Miri will regain her innate cuteness and no longer seem threatening.
(For sure you'll both be able to explain this better)

Oh My!
I knew at some point Miri was going to get too big for her britches.I guess you could make her aware of the fear(awe)of G-d is the beginning of wisdom stuff. That fear is really good for when you start getting too big for one's britches. You could appeal to her Nefesh the soul side as opposed to her physical side-you know the I want I want I want side.It looks like she needs to get outside and play with other children her age.
