| 1. These are the descendants of Moses and Aaron on the day that the Lord spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai. |
|
א. וְאֵלֶּה תּוֹלְדֹת אַהֲרֹן וּמֹשֶׁה בְּיוֹם דִּבֶּר יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֶת מֹשֶׁה בְּהַר סִינָי: |
| 2. These are the names of the sons of Aaron: Nadab the firstborn Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. |
|
ב. וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן הַבְּכוֹר נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא אֶלְעָזָר וְאִיתָמָר: |
| 3. These are the names of the sons of Aaron, the anointed kohanim, whom he consecrated to serve as kohanim. |
|
ג. אֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֲנִים הַמְּשֻׁחִים אֲשֶׁר מִלֵּא יָדָם לְכַהֵן: |
| 4. Nadab and Abihu died before the Lord when they brought alien fire before the Lord in the Sinai desert, and they had no children. Eleazar and Ithamar, however, served as kohanim in the presence of Aaron, their father. |
|
ד. וַיָּמָת נָדָב וַאֲבִיהוּא לִפְנֵי יְ־הֹוָ־ה בְּהַקְרִבָם אֵשׁ זָרָה לִפְנֵי יְ־הֹוָ־ה בְּמִדְבַּר סִינַי וּבָנִים לֹא הָיוּ לָהֶם וַיְכַהֵן אֶלְעָזָר וְאִיתָמָר עַל פְּנֵי אַהֲרֹן אֲבִיהֶם: |
| 5. The Lord spoke to Moses saying: |
|
ה. וַיְדַבֵּר יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר: |
| 6. Bring forth the tribe of Levi and present them before Aaron the kohen, that they may serve him. |
|
ו. הַקְרֵב אֶת מַטֵּה לֵוִי וְהַעֲמַדְתָּ אֹתוֹ לִפְנֵי אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן וְשֵׁרְתוּ אֹתוֹ: |
| 7. They shall keep his charge and the charge of the entire community before the Tent of Meeting, to perform the service of the Mishkan. |
|
ז. וְשָׁמְרוּ אֶת מִשְׁמַרְתּוֹ וְאֶת מִשְׁמֶרֶת כָּל הָעֵדָה לִפְנֵי אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד לַעֲבֹד אֶת עֲבֹדַת הַמִּשְׁכָּן: |
| 8. They shall take charge of all the vessels of the Tent of Meeting and the charge of the children of Israel, to perform the service of the Mishkan. |
|
ח. וְשָׁמְרוּ אֶת כָּל כְּלֵי אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד וְאֶת מִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לַעֲבֹד אֶת עֲבֹדַת הַמִּשְׁכָּן: |
| 9. You shall give over the Levites to Aaron and his sons; they shall be wholly given over to him from the children of Israel. |
|
ט. וְנָתַתָּה אֶת הַלְוִיִּם לְאַהֲרֹן וּלְבָנָיו נְתוּנִם נְתוּנִם הֵמָּה לוֹ מֵאֵת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: |
| 10. You shall appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall keep their kehunah; any outsider [non kohen] who approaches shall be put to death. |
|
י. וְאֶת אַהֲרֹן וְאֶת בָּנָיו תִּפְקֹד וְשָׁמְרוּ אֶת כְּהֻנָּתָם וְהַזָּר הַקָּרֵב יוּמָת: |
| 11. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying. |
|
יא. וַיְדַבֵּר יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר: |
| 12. As for Me I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel in place of all firstborns among the children of Israel who have opened the womb, and the Levites shall be Mine. |
|
יב. וַאֲנִי הִנֵּה לָקַחְתִּי אֶת הַלְוִיִּם מִתּוֹךְ בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל תַּחַת כָּל בְּכוֹר פֶּטֶר רֶחֶם מִבְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהָיוּ לִי הַלְוִיִּם: |
| 13. For all the firstborns are Mine; since the day I smote all the firstborns in the land of Egypt, I sanctified for Myself all the firstborns of Israel, both man and beast they shall become Mine, I am the Lord. |
|
יג. כִּי לִי כָּל בְּכוֹר בְּיוֹם הַכֹּתִי כָל בְּכוֹר בְּאֶרֶץ מִצְרַיִם הִקְדַּשְׁתִּי לִי כָל בְּכוֹר בְּיִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאָדָם עַד בְּהֵמָה לִי יִהְיוּ אֲנִי יְ־הֹוָ־ה: |
| 14. The Lord spoke to Moses in the Sinai desert, saying: |
|
יד. וַיְדַבֵּר יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֶל מֹשֶׁה בְּמִדְבַּר סִינַי לֵאמֹר: |
| 15. Count the children of Levi according to their fathers' house according to their families. Count all males from the age of one month and upward. |
|
טו. פְּקֹד אֶת בְּנֵי לֵוִי לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם כָּל זָכָר מִבֶּן חֹדֶשׁ וָמַעְלָה תִּפְקְדֵם: |
| 16. So Moses counted them according to God's word, just as he was commanded. |
|
טז. וַיִּפְקֹד אֹתָם מֹשֶׁה עַל פִּי יְ־הֹוָ־ה כַּאֲשֶׁר צֻוָּה: |
| 17. These were the names of Levi's sons: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari. |
|
יז. וַיִּהְיוּ אֵלֶּה בְנֵי לֵוִי בִּשְׁמֹתָם גֵּרְשׁוֹן וּקְהָת וּמְרָרִי: |
| 18. The names of the sons of Gershon according to their families were Libni and Shim'ei. |
|
יח. וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹן לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם לִבְנִי וְשִׁמְעִי: |
| 19. And the sons of Kohath according to their families were Amram, Itzhar, Hebron, and Uziel. |
|
יט. וּבְנֵי קְהָת לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם עַמְרָם וְיִצְהָר חֶבְרוֹן וְעֻזִּיאֵל: |
| 20. And the sons of Merari according to their families were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of Levi according to their fathers' houses. |
|
כ. וּבְנֵי מְרָרִי לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם מַחְלִי וּמוּשִׁי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַלֵּוִי לְבֵית אֲבֹתָם: |
| 21. For Gershon, the Libnite family and the Shim'eite family; these are the Gershonite families. |
|
כא. לְגֵרְשׁוֹן מִשְׁפַּחַת הַלִּבְנִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַשִּׁמְעִי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי: |
| 22. Their sum was made according to the number of males from the age of one month and upward; the tally amounted to seven thousand, five hundred. |
|
כב. פְּקֻדֵיהֶם בְּמִסְפַּר כָּל זָכָר מִבֶּן חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה פְּקֻדֵיהֶם שִׁבְעַת אֲלָפִים וַחֲמֵשׁ מֵאוֹת: |
| 23. The Gershonite families shall camp behind the Mishkan, to the west. |
|
כג. מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי אַחֲרֵי הַמִּשְׁכָּן יַחֲנוּ יָמָּה: |
| 24. The prince of the father's house of the Gershonites is Eliasaph the son of Lael. |
|
כד. וּנְשִׂיא בֵית אָב לַגֵּרְשֻׁנִּי אֶלְיָסָף בֶּן לָאֵל: |
| 25. The charge of the sons of Gershon in the Tent of Meeting [included] the Mishkan, the Tent, its cover, and the screen for the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. |
|
כה. וּמִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי גֵרְשׁוֹן בְּאֹהֶל מוֹעֵד הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְהָאֹהֶל מִכְסֵהוּ וּמָסַךְ פֶּתַח אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד: |
| 26. The hangings of the courtyard, the screen at the entrance to the courtyard, which is around the Mishkan and the altar, its ropes, as well as all the work involved. |
|
כו. וְקַלְעֵי הֶחָצֵר וְאֶת מָסַךְ פֶּתַח הֶחָצֵר אֲשֶׁר עַל הַמִּשְׁכָּן וְעַל הַמִּזְבֵּחַ סָבִיב וְאֵת מֵיתָרָיו לְכֹל עֲבֹדָתוֹ: |
| 27. For Kohath, the Amramite family, the Izharite family, the Hebronite family, and the Uzielite family; these are the families of Kohath. |
|
כז. וְלִקְהָת מִשְׁפַּחַת הַעַמְרָמִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַיִּצְהָרִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַחֶבְרֹנִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הָעָזִּיאֵלִי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת הַקְּהָתִי: |
| 28. The number of all males from the age of one month and upward amounted to eight thousand six hundred, the keepers of the charge of the holy. |
|
כח. בְּמִסְפַּר כָּל זָכָר מִבֶּן חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה שְׁמֹנַת אֲלָפִים וְשֵׁשׁ מֵאוֹת שֹׁמְרֵי מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַקֹּדֶשׁ: |
| 29. The families of the sons of Kohath shall camp to the south side of the Mishkan. |
|
כט. מִשְׁפְּחֹת בְּנֵי קְהָת יַחֲנוּ עַל יֶרֶךְ הַמִּשְׁכָּן תֵּימָנָה: |
| 30. The prince of the father's house of the Kohathite families is Elizaphan the son of Uziel. |
|
ל. וּנְשִׂיא בֵית אָב לְמִשְׁפְּחֹת הַקְּהָתִי אֱלִיצָפָן בֶּן עֻזִּיאֵל: |
| 31. Their charge [included] the ark, the table, the menorah, the altars, and the holy utensils with which they would minister, and the screen and all the work involved. |
|
לא. וּמִשְׁמַרְתָּם הָאָרֹן וְהַשֻּׁלְחָן וְהַמְּנֹרָה וְהַמִּזְבְּחֹת וּכְלֵי הַקֹּדֶשׁ אֲשֶׁר יְשָׁרְתוּ בָּהֶם וְהַמָּסָךְ וְכֹל עֲבֹדָתוֹ: |
| 32. The prince over all the princes of the Levites shall be Eleazar the son of Aaron the kohen, the appointment of all the keepers of the charge of the Holy. |
|
לב. וּנְשִׂיא נְשִׂיאֵי הַלֵּוִי אֶלְעָזָר בֶּן אַהֲרֹן הַכֹּהֵן פְּקֻדַּת שֹׁמְרֵי מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַקֹּדֶשׁ: |
| 33. For Merari, the Machlite family and the Mushite family; these are the families of Merari. |
|
לג. לִמְרָרִי מִשְׁפַּחַת הַמַּחְלִי וּמִשְׁפַּחַת הַמּוּשִׁי אֵלֶּה הֵם מִשְׁפְּחֹת מְרָרִי: |
| 34. Their tally according to the number of males from the age of one month and upward was six thousand two hundred. |
|
לד. וּפְקֻדֵיהֶם בְּמִסְפַּר כָּל זָכָר מִבֶּן חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה שֵׁשֶׁת אֲלָפִים וּמָאתָיִם: |
| 35. The prince of the father's house of the Merarite families is Zuriel the son of Abihail; they shall camp on the north side of the Mishkan. |
|
לה. וּנְשִׂיא בֵית אָב לְמִשְׁפְּחֹת מְרָרִי צוּרִיאֵל בֶּן אֲבִיחָיִל עַל יֶרֶךְ הַמִּשְׁכָּן יַחֲנוּ צָפֹנָה: |
| 36. The appointment of the charge of the sons of Merari [included] the planks of the Mishkan, its bars, its pillars, and its sockets, all its utensils, and all the work involved. |
|
לו. וּפְקֻדַּת מִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי מְרָרִי קַרְשֵׁי הַמִּשְׁכָּן וּבְרִיחָיו וְעַמֻּדָיו וַאֲדָנָיו וְכָל כֵּלָיו וְכֹל עֲבֹדָתוֹ: |
| 37. Also the pillars of the surrounding courtyard, their sockets, their stakes, and their ropes. |
|
לז. וְעַמֻּדֵי הֶחָצֵר סָבִיב וְאַדְנֵיהֶם וִיתֵדֹתָם וּמֵיתְרֵיהֶם: |
| 38. Camping in front of the Mishkan, in front of the Tent of Meeting to the east were Moses, Aaron and his sons, the keepers of the charge of the Sanctuary as a trust for the children of Israel; any outsider who approaches shall be put to death. |
|
לח. וְהַחֹנִים לִפְנֵי הַמִּשְׁכָּן קֵדְמָה לִפְנֵי אֹהֶל מוֹעֵד מִזְרָחָה מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן וּבָנָיו שֹׁמְרִים מִשְׁמֶרֶת הַמִּקְדָּשׁ לְמִשְׁמֶרֶת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְהַזָּר הַקָּרֵב יוּמָת: |
| 39. The sum of the male Levites according to their families, from the age of one month and upward, counted by Moses and Aaron according to the word of the Lord, was twenty two thousand. |

לט. כָּל פְּקוּדֵי הַלְוִיִּם אֲשֶׁר פָּקַד מֹשֶׁה וְאַהֲרֹן עַל פִּי יְ־הֹוָ־ה לְמִשְׁפְּחֹתָם כָּל זָכָר מִבֶּן חֹדֶשׁ וָמַעְלָה שְׁנַיִם וְעֶשְׂרִים אָלֶף: |
| 40. The Lord said to Moses: Count every firstborn male aged one month and upward of the children of Israel, and take the number of their names. |
|
מ. וַיֹּאמֶר יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֶל מֹשֶׁה פְּקֹד כָּל בְּכֹר זָכָר לִבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל מִבֶּן חֹדֶשׁ וָמָעְלָה וְשָׂא אֵת מִסְפַּר שְׁמֹתָם: |
| 41. And you shall take the Levites for Me I am the Lord instead of all firstborns among the children of Israel. And [take] the Levites' animals instead of all the firstborn animals of the children of Israel. |
|
מא. וְלָקַחְתָּ אֶת הַלְוִיִּם לִי אֲנִי יְ־הֹוָ־ה תַּחַת כָּל בְּכֹר בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֵת בֶּהֱמַת הַלְוִיִּם תַּחַת כָּל בְּכוֹר בְּבֶהֱמַת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: |
| 42. So Moses counted every firstborn of Israel, as the Lord had commanded him. |
|
מב. וַיִּפְקֹד מֹשֶׁה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֹתוֹ אֶת כָּל בְּכֹר בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: |
| 43. The firstborn males aged one month and upward, according to the number of names, was twenty two thousand, two hundred and seventy three. |
|
מג. וַיְהִי כָל בְּכוֹר זָכָר בְּמִסְפַּר שֵׁמוֹת מִבֶּן חֹדֶשׁ וָמַעְלָה לִפְקֻדֵיהֶם שְׁנַיִם וְעֶשְׂרִים אֶלֶף שְׁלֹשָׁה וְשִׁבְעִים וּמָאתָיִם: |
| 44. The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: |
|
מד. וַיְדַבֵּר יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֶל מֹשֶׁה לֵּאמֹר: |
| 45. Take the Levites instead of all the firstborns among the children of Israel and the Levites' animals instead of their animals, and the Levites shall be Mine I am the Lord. |
|
מה. קַח אֶת הַלְוִיִּם תַּחַת כָּל בְּכוֹר בִּבְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֶת בֶּהֱמַת הַלְוִיִּם תַּחַת בְּהֶמְתָּם וְהָיוּ לִי הַלְוִיִּם אֲנִי יְ־הֹוָ־ה: |
| 46. As for the two hundred and seventy three of the children of Israel who required redemption, who are in excess of the Levites, |
|
מו. וְאֵת פְּדוּיֵי הַשְּׁלֹשָׁה וְהַשִּׁבְעִים וְהַמָּאתָיִם הָעֹדְפִים עַל הַלְוִיִּם מִבְּכוֹר בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל: |
| 47. you shall take five shekels per head, according to the holy shekel, by which the shekel is twenty gerahs. |
|
מז. וְלָקַחְתָּ חֲמֵשֶׁת חֲמֵשֶׁת שְׁקָלִים לַגֻּלְגֹּלֶת בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ תִּקָּח עֶשְׂרִים גֵּרָה הַשָּׁקֶל: |
| 48. You shall give the money to Aaron and his sons, in redemption for the firstborns who are in excess of them. |
|
מח. וְנָתַתָּה הַכֶּסֶף לְאַהֲרֹן וּלְבָנָיו פְּדוּיֵי הָעֹדְפִים בָּהֶם: |
| 49. So Moses took the redemption money for those in excess of those redeemed by the Levites. |
|
מט. וַיִּקַּח מֹשֶׁה אֵת כֶּסֶף הַפִּדְיוֹם מֵאֵת הָעֹדְפִים עַל פְּדוּיֵי הַלְוִיִּם: |
| 50. He took the money from the firstborn of the children of Israel; one thousand, three hundred and sixty five of the holy shekels. |
|
נ. מֵאֵת בְּכוֹר בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לָקַח אֶת הַכָּסֶף חֲמִשָּׁה וְשִׁשִּׁים וּשְׁלֹשׁ מֵאוֹת וָאֶלֶף בְּשֶׁקֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ: |
| 51. Then Moses gave the money of those redeemed to Aaron and his sons, in accordance with the word of the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses. |
|
נא. וַיִּתֵּן מֹשֶׁה אֶת כֶּסֶף הַפְּדֻיִם לְאַהֲרֹן וּלְבָנָיו עַל פִּי יְ־הֹוָ־ה כַּאֲשֶׁר צִוָּה יְ־הֹוָ־ה אֶת מֹשֶׁה: |
