Divrei Hayamim II - II Chronicles - Chapter 22
Chapter 22
| 1. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem made Ahaziah his youngest son king in his stead, for the troop that had come from the Arabians to the camp had slain all the first ones, and Ahaziah, the son of Jehoram the king of Judah reigned. |
א. |
| 2. Ahaziah was forty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem, and his mother's name was Athaliah the daughter of Omri. |
ב. |
| 3. He too went in the ways of the house of Ahab, because his mother would advise him to deal wickedly. |
ג. |
| 4. And he did that which was evil in the eyes of the Lord as did the house of Ahab, because they were his advisors after his father's death, to bring about his destruction. |
ד. |
| 5. He, too, followed their counsel, and he went with Jehoram the son of Ahab, the king of Israel, to war against Hazael, the king of Aram in Ramoth-Gilead, and the Arameans smote Joram. |
ה. |
| 6. And he went back to be healed in Jezreel because of the smiters who smote him in Ramah, when he waged war with Hazael the king of Aram, and Azariah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab in Jezreel because he was ill. |
ו. |
| 7. Now the downfall of Ahaziah was from God, insofar as he came to Joram, and when he came, he went out with Jehoram to Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom the Lord had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. |
ז. |
| 8. And it came to pass when Jehu executed justice upon the house of Ahab, that he found the chiefs of Judah and the sons of Ahaziah's brothers, ministering to Ahaziah, and he slew them. |
ח. |
| 9. And he sought Ahaziah and they seized him, and he was hiding in Samaria, and they brought him to Jehu, and they slew him, and they buried him, for they said, "He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with all his heart," and the house of Ahaziah could not muster up strength for the kingdom. |
ט. |
| 10. And [when] Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah, saw that her son was dead, she rose and destroyed all those of royal descent of the house of Judah. |
י. |
| 11. And Jehoshabeath, the king's daughter took Joash the son of Ahaziah and stole him away from among the slain children of the king, and she placed him and his nurse in the bed-chamber, and Jehoshabeath the daughter of King Jehoram, the wife of Jehoiada the priest, concealed him-because she was the sister of Ahaziah- from before Athaliah, and she did not slay him. |
יא. |
| 12. And he hid with them in the House of God for six years, and Athaliah reigned over the land. |
